Nova Orchester Wien Appoints Liina Leijala as Managing Director!

Vienna, 18 April 2024 — After an extensive search, the Nova Orchester Wien (NOW!) is pleased to announce the appointment of Liina Leijala as its new Managing Director, effective 12 March 2024. Ms. Leijala will also continue in her role as Executive Director at Barenboim-Said For Music.


William Garfield Walker, Chief Conductor, states:
"Liina Leijala embodies the spirit of innovation, which is a guiding light of the philosophy of our orchestra. Her appointment as Managing Director comes at an exciting time for our orchestra we will soon embark on our most ambitious and exciting season ever. In her, the Nova Orchester Wien has found a like-minded partner committed to musical excellence and searching for what a 21st century orchestra could and should be."

Liina Leijala on her new position:

About Liina Leijala:
Liina Leijala has served as Executive Director at Barenboim-Said For Music for over a decade, where she has been instrumental in its development and international acclaim. As an accomplished cellist, Ms. Leijala has performed with prestigious ensembles such as the Orchestra Academy Ossiach, the Barbirolli Quartet, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, and the East-West Divan Orchestra. She holds degrees from the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
